CAA for ELA "Second Score" Research Study Interest Form

Educational Testing Service is looking for schools to participate in a research study for the 2018–19 California Alternate Assessment (CAA) for English language arts/literacy (ELA) during regular test administration. Schools that participate will be compensated with a $30 Amazon gift card for every student participating. The compensation will be provided to the school directly for use in classroom supplies.

What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this study is to assess the validity of rubric-scored items in the CAA for ELA test.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for California schools with more than five eligible students taking the CAA for ELA test in grades three through eight.

What would happen in this study?
In this study, a second test examiner, ideally another special education teacher also familiar with the student, would sit alongside the first test examiner and write down a second score for the handful of constructed response items (usually about one to three per grade level) in this year’s test. The school would appoint a second test examiner to observe one-on-one testing while the CAA for ELA test is being administered.  ETS would provide an answer recording document (or a secure online form) on which the score could be recorded. Thereafter, the answers would be recorded via a secure online form.

When would it happen?
This would occur during regularly scheduled testing for your school (typically April/May).

To express interest in participating in this study, please provide your contact information, your school/LEA, estimated number of eligible students and grades.

If you have any questions, please contact Grace Yoo at gyoo@ets.org or 916-403-2435.
